Best Manhua in English Print (2026): 6 Chinese Comics Worth Buying

The best Chinese comics you can buy in English print right now, from Mo Dao Zu Shi and Heaven Official's Blessing to Link Click, plus how to avoid buying the novel by mistake.

a group of cd cases on a table

Manhua are comics from China, and for years English readers could only find them as scanlations or on reading apps. That has changed. Seven Seas, Penguin Random House’s Inklore imprint and Aloha Comics now print the top manhua as proper books, mostly in full color, and the shelf is finally big enough to pick from. Most of what’s available adapts hit Chinese web novels, especially danmei (male/male romance) fantasy, plus a couple of originals tied to animated series. These are the manhua we’d buy in English print today: comic editions only, not the prose novels that share their titles.

How we chose: we compared the manhua currently listed on Amazon in English against our own reading of the comics and the stories behind them. We picked volume 1 of each series so you can try it, favored series with several volumes already out, and left out pre-orders, novels and non-English editions. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (The Comic) Vol. 1 — Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and Luo Di Cheng Qiu, Seven Seas, 216 pages

Mo Dao Zu Shi is the story that made Mo Xiang Tong Xiu a household name outside China. Wei Wuxian, a feared practitioner of demonic cultivation, died hated by the whole cultivation world. Years later he is pulled back into a stranger's body and has to untangle what really happened, often with the stern, upright Lan Wangji at his side. It's a murder mystery, a ghost story and a slow-burn romance all at once.

Luo Di Cheng Qiu's art suits it perfectly. The character designs are elegant without being stiff, the horror sequences are properly creepy, and the full-color pages make the robes, talismans and ghostly effects pop. Seven Seas has reached volume 13 in English, more than any other manhua in this guide, so you won't be stranded after a volume or two.

If you only know the story from The Untamed live-action drama or the donghua, the comic is the most faithful visual version of the novel, romance included. Start here if you want one manhua to judge the whole format by.

Pros

  • Long run already available in English
  • Beautiful, consistent full-color art
  • Strong mystery structure keeps pages turning

Cons

  • Large cast and names take effort early on
  • Gore and corpses throughout
  • Still ongoing, so no ending in print yet

Heaven Official's Blessing (The Comic) Vol. 1 — Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and STARember, Inklore, 256 pages, published December 2025

Heaven Official's Blessing follows Xie Lian, a crown prince who ascended to godhood, was cast down, and has just ascended for a third time to the open mockery of the heavens. His first new assignment brings him into the orbit of Hua Cheng, a powerful and very devoted ghost king. The story mixes episodic supernatural cases with a long, tender love story and a mystery stretching back eight hundred years.

STARember's manhua is famous for its painterly color and cinematic paneling, and Inklore's hardcover gives it the presentation it deserves. Volume 1 came out in December 2025 and volume 2 in July 2026; volumes 3 through 6 are listed for release between November 2026 and July 2027, so expect a steady but slow climb.

One thing to check: Amazon also lists Heaven Official's Blessing comic hardcovers from Aloha Comics, including a box set. Look at the publisher name before you buy so you don't end up with mismatched editions on your shelf.

Pros

  • Some of the best art in any webcomic
  • Premium hardcover format
  • Accessible even if you haven't read the novel

Cons

  • Only two volumes out so far
  • Two different English comic editions listed

Pages 224
Format Hardcover, first edition
Reader age / content Not stated in listing; crime and peril, teens and up

Link Click 1 — Li Haoling, Aloha Comics, hardcover, 224 pages, published April 2024

Link Click began as a Chinese animated series from director Li Haoling, and the comic carries over its best idea. Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang run a small photo studio with a secret service on the side: using a client's photograph, Cheng can enter the moment it was taken and live through it, while Lu talks him through the rules. Each job is a small mystery, and each one has a way of going sideways.

It's the easiest recommendation here for readers who don't want a historical fantasy romance. The tone moves between light comedy and real dread, and the cases get darker as the volumes go on. The listing promises a full English translation, including sound effects and background text, which matters in a story that hides clues in the details.

Volumes 1 through 4 are listed, along with a limited slipcase collector's edition. The standard box set was showing as currently unavailable when we checked, so single volumes are the practical route.

Pros

  • Fresh premise that works on the page
  • Fully translated art, sound effects included
  • Good gateway for readers new to manhua

Cons

  • Best enjoyed with knowledge of the anime's tone
  • Hardcovers are slim for the format
  • Standard box set unavailable for now

Collects Volume 1 of the comic (chapter range not stated in listing)
Pages 296
Format Paperback
Reader age / content Not stated in listing; fantasy violence, teens and up

Dinghai Fusheng Records (The Comic) Vol. 1 — Fei Tian Ye Xiang and Qian Er Bai, Seven Seas, 296 pages, published November 2024

Adapted from Fei Tian Ye Xiang's novel, Dinghai Fusheng Records follows Chen Xing, a young exorcist in a fantasy version of ancient China where magic is draining out of the world and demons are rising to fill the gap. To stop them he has to find his destined protector, and the man fate points to, the formidable Xiang Shu, is anything but an easy partner. Much of the fun is in that friction.

Qian Er Bai's art leans warm and expressive, with big landscapes and a lot of comic timing in the faces. Seven Seas has three volumes out, with volumes 4 and 5 listed for 2027. It's a slower release than Mo Dao Zu Shi, but each volume is close to 300 pages, so you get a lot of story per book.

Pros

  • Large-scale story with a strong hook
  • Funny, combative central pairing
  • Generous page counts

Cons

  • Only three volumes out so far
  • Historical setting assumes some patience
  • Volume 1 listing shows limited stock

I Ship My Rival x Me (The Comic) Vol. 1 — PEPA and Qualia, Seven Seas, 304 pages, published November 2024

Not every popular manhua is a centuries-spanning epic. I Ship My Rival x Me is a contemporary entertainment-industry romantic comedy, and its title tells you the joke: two rival stars, a fandom that pairs them up, and what happens when the lines between public rivalry and private feeling start to blur.

Qualia's art is bright and clean, built for comic reactions and close-ups more than action. It's the lightest book in this guide, and Seven Seas has kept it moving: volumes 1–5 are out, with volume 5 published in September 2026. If danmei fantasy feels like too big a commitment, this is the friendlier way into Chinese romance comics.

Pros

  • Easy, funny and fast to read
  • Contemporary setting with no world-building homework
  • Several volumes available

Cons

  • Lighter on plot than the fantasy picks
  • Showbiz in-jokes won't land for everyone
  • Romance-first, so not for action fans

Little Mushroom Manhua Vol. 1 — Yi Shi Si Zhou, Aloha Comics, hardcover, 220 pages, published November 2025

Based on Yi Shi Si Zhou's novel, Little Mushroom is set after a catastrophe that has filled the world with mutated, infectious life. Humanity survives behind walls, and anyone who might be infected is screened and dealt with harshly. The lead is a small mushroom who has taken human form and slips into the city. The story is about whether something gentle and inhuman can survive among people trained to destroy it, and about the stern officer whose job is to find exactly that.

It's the most unusual pick on this list and the best for readers who like their sci-fi melancholy and character-driven. Only volume 1 is on the shelf so far, so treat it as a taste rather than a commitment.

Pros

  • Original, haunting premise
  • Strong mood and atmosphere
  • Nice hardcover presentation

Cons

  • Only one volume out in English
  • Listing doesn't credit the artist
  • Slow pace in the opening chapters

What about Scum Villain and The King's Avatar?

Two of the most requested titles aren't on the English comics shelf yet. For The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System, Amazon's English listings are all for Seven Seas' four-volume prose novel, not the manhua. For The King's Avatar, the only print comic we found was a German edition. Both are worth reading in other forms. Scum Villain's novel is a sharp, very funny parody of web-novel tropes. If an English print comic edition appears, we'll add it here.

The same goes for Heaven Official's Blessing, Mo Dao Zu Shi, Thousand Autumns and Remnants of Filth: the novels from Seven Seas sit right next to the comics in search results, often with very similar covers. Look for "The Comic" or "Manhua" in the title, and avoid listings marked "(Novel)" if you want pictures.

More manhua worth knowing about

  • Mo Dao Zu Shi, later volumes — volumes 2 through 13 are all listed from Seven Seas, so you can binge a long way past volume 1.
  • Link Click Vols. 1–4 Collector's Edition — a limited slipcase release from Aloha Comics with acrylic figurines, postcards, a mini-poster and a bookmark. For fans of the anime.
  • Here U Are — DJUN's gentle campus romance is also published in hardcover by Aloha Comics, and a good pick for readers who like quieter love stories.
  • Heaven Official's Blessing volumes 3–6 — listed by Inklore for release between November 2026 and July 2027.

How manhua differ from manga and manhwa

All three are East Asian comics, but they reach English readers in different ways.

Format Origin Typical print edition Reads
Manhua China (also Hong Kong and Taiwan) Full-color paperback or hardcover Left to right
Manhwa South Korea Full-color paperback, often from webtoons Left to right
Manga Japan Black-and-white paperback Right to left

Most modern manhua start life as vertical-scroll webcomics on Chinese apps, so the book editions are reformatted from long strips into pages, the same way Korean webtoons are. That's why they're usually in color and read left to right like Western comics. If you enjoy the format, our best manhwa and best webtoons guides cover the Korean side of the shelf, and webtoons vs. manga explains the format differences in more depth.

How to choose your first manhua

  1. Pick a long-running series if you binge. Mo Dao Zu Shi has 13 volumes out; most others have five or fewer.
  2. Decide whether you want romance. Most English manhua are danmei adaptations. If you'd rather skip the romance, start with Link Click. For more BL across formats, see our best BL manga list.
  3. Check the publisher. Some series have more than one English edition listed. Pick one and stick with it so your shelf matches.
  4. Hardcover or paperback. Inklore and Aloha Comics mostly print hardcovers; Seven Seas prints paperbacks. Hardcovers make better gifts; paperbacks are easier to collect in bulk.
  5. Check that it says "The Comic". The novels share titles and cover art. See the note above.
